Deep in British Columbia's
wilderness, along the banks of the Taseko river, close to the
Nemaiah Valley in the shadow of the Coastal Mountain range, is
the location of a new artists residency. Point Zero Arts Habitat
will be a remote sanctuary for visual artists, filmmakers, photographers,
writers and composers, who desire to escape their normal routine
& surroundings in order to realize their special projects
at Point Zero Arts Habitat, located in the heart of British Columbia's
beautiful Chilcotin.
Point Zero Arts Habitat's mission
is to be a host venue for arts professionals from all around
the world, who share the same goal when they apply to work here:
to create a singular, cutting-edge work of art, incorporating
photography; cinematography, written word and/or electronic music,
that could not be created under any other circumstance nor at
any other locality in the world.
Point Zero Arts Habitat will
not only be a wilderness retreat, but also provide artists with
an extensive range of technical facilities such as: 16mm professional
movie recording & editing equipment, 35mm & 6x7cm photographic
equipment, digital printing, sound recording; etc., as well as
offering technical support by knowledgeable assistants. The structures
that make up Point Zero Arts Habitat, as well as all of its furnishings,
are being handcrafted entirely from local materials, reflecting
the landscape of the vicinity, thus creating a place that breaths
the sublime atmosphere of this wild corner of British Columbia.
Point Zero Arts Habitat is
initiated by Dutch artists Roderik and Tanja Henderson, who's
work is shown around the world (Museum Boymans van Beuningen,
Rotterdam; New Zealand Filmfestival; Arts Factory, Las Vegas,
USA; Galleria Civica D'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Torino,
Italy, etc) and who's commissions include: extensive series of
photographic portraits of Queen Beatrix & her Family (used
for design of new Dutch currency) countless catalogues ("The
Stone Flies", Arti et Amici), art books ("Huang Yong
Ping" - awarded best designed artbook NL 1998; "Mark
Manders" / Biennial of Sao Paulo, etc.) newspapers and magazines.
They have also worked successfully on the realization of cutting
edge, award winning projects from numerous internationally acclaimed
artists: Carlos Amorales, Mexico (Venice Biennial; Tate Modern
Art; Centre George Pompidou), Runa Islam, UK (Biennial of United
Arab Emirates; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam); Otto Berchem, USA
(Gwangju Biennial, Korea); Owen Oppenheimer (Channel 4, UK; Dutch
Photo Institute); Alicia Framis, Spain (Venice Biennial; Documenta,
Kassel); etc.
For the past four years they
have been traveling across the North American Deserts, a journey
into the vast stretch of world's ultimate void - living in a
land of dust, rock and desolation. During this time, they have
been working solely on "A Desret Odyssey" - a comprehensive
photographic project, supported by the Dutch Foundation of Art,
Design & Architecture, Amsterdam; Center for Photographic
Projects, Santa Fe, NM; Nevada Arts Council, Carson City, NV;
Arizona Film Commission, Phoenix, AZ; NASA/JPL, Pasadena,CA;
etc. This odyssey became their window on the world - it defined
a vision of clarity & simplicity, of passion & lust for
life, of glorification of the puny & the beauty of the raw
state of things. It is this vision that will continue to evolve
in Point Zero Arts Habitat... |
